First Settlers

The first settlers of Washington State were originally Native Americans. They lived in various groups in an area west of the cascades. Their diet consisted of deer, salmon, and clams. In 1775 Spaniards came to Washington and declared it Spanish. In 1883 a railroad brought many more people to the state, which caused Washington to become an official state on November 11th 1889, and it was the 42nd state.

  1. Nice pictures, Kristina! Washington state is still known for its incredible natural beauty. Hunters, fishermen, and people who just love the great outdoors enjoying hiking, camping, sailing and cycling in Washington State. The Spanish had already settled in California, so it made sense for them to attempt to add Washington to their territory. Please add your sources.
